Notes about this work: The plate for Olives was originally part of a series entitled Delights—a portfolio of seventeen etchings of iconic culinary treats published by Crown Point Press in 1964. The “version” of Olives is a special work which Thiebaud “revised” some time after the release of the Delights portfolio. Thiebaud took this Artist’s Proof of Olives and hand-applied the paint to the paper—fundamentally transforming it into a unique watercolor over etching—in essence, an original painting.
