This lithograph is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Marc Chagall” at the lower right corner.
It is also hand numbered in pencil from the edition of 200, at the lower left margin.
It was printed by Charles Sorlier at Atelier Mourlot in 1957 in a limited edition of 200 signed and numbered impressions based on Chagall’s oil painting “Le Cantique des Cantiques III” (now in the collection of the Musée National Marc Chagall, Nice).
It was published by Éditions des Amis du Message Biblique Marc Chagall, Nice.
The paper bears the Arches watermark.
This work was used for a poster advertising the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall in Japan.

The Artist

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall began using printmaking techniques when he was 35 years old. He produced a lot of lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts while residing in Berlin, Germany, during the time. The art dealer Vollard hired Chagall in 1923 to illustrate the Bible, La Fontaine’s Fables, and The Dead Souls by Gogol.
