The Artist

Sybil Andrews

Sybil Andrews was a British-born Canadian printmaker, most notable for her work with linocuts. She trained in the UK and began producing and exhibiting linocuts from 1921 until the year 1939. In 1947 she married Walter Morgan and the pair moved to Canada. She was elected to the Society of Canadian Painters, Etchers and Engravers in 1951. It was at this time that she completed one of her major works, The Banner of St Edmund. This banner now hangs in the Treasury of St James Cathedral in London; near where she was born.
