AN OUTSTANDING IMPRESSION OF VAN GOGH’S ONLY ETCHING, WITH HUGE MARGINS AND IN PERFECT CONDITION.

Printed (probably by Dr Gachet, the sitter) on extremely fine, thin Japanese laid paper.

With the cat’s head stamp (Lugt 2807c) at lower center of platemark, as usual.

Inscribed verso by Paul Gachet, Jr. (son of the sitter / printer): “L’homme a la pipe (Dr Gachet.) Unique eau-forte de Vincent Van Gogh. Auvers s/Oise –25 Mai 1890. [and signed by Gachet.]”

An excellent impression in excellent condition of this extremely important and rare etching, the only time time Gogh expressed himself in the medium.
