Technique: Original Hand Signed and Inscribed Etching on Chine Appliqué on Wove Paper

Additional Information: This original etching is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Henri Matisse” in the lower right margin. It is also hand inscribed ‘essai’ [proof], in the lower right margin. This impression is one of only two annotated ‘essai’, aside from the standard edition of 15.

Provenance: Collector’s mark Marcel Louis Guerin (1873-1948), Lugt 1872b. Galerie R.-G. Michel, 17 quai Saint Michel, Paris. Gallery Nordqvist, Malmö. Acquired from the above in 1952. Private Collection, Scandinavia.

Condition: Very good condition. A minor paper loss at the centre of the lower sheet edge. The sheet with scattered pinpoint foxing. Remnants of hinging along the upper sheet edge, verso.
