Philip Van Keuren’s images are prompted by everyday observations that reveal the world as sublimely beautiful while simultaneously unknowable. In 2009 Van Keuren began a collaboration with Manneken Press to produce forty photogravure plates from his original 35mm camera negatives, a process which would take years to complete. The project is collectively titled “Toward What Sun?”, after a quote from the poet Rilke. Manneken Press released groups of ten editions in 2016, 2019 and 2025. The final ten editions will be released released in 2026. The images are 12 x 8 inches, hand-printed on 18 x 14 inch Hahnemühle Copperplate paper in editions of 12.
