This original lithograph is hand signed in pencil by the artist ‘Marc Chagall’ at the lower right margin.
It is also inscribed EA, at the lower left margin. It is an épreuve d’artiste [artists proof] aside from the edition of 40.
It was printed by Fernand Mourlot and published by André Sauret, Montecarlo.
The paper bears a partial Arches watermark in the lower right margin.
This is the fourth of fifteen lithographs created for inclusion in the first volume of the catalogue raisonné of Chagall lithographs.

The Artist

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall began using printmaking techniques when he was 35 years old. He produced a lot of lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts while residing in Berlin, Germany, during the time. The art dealer Vollard hired Chagall in 1923 to illustrate the Bible, La Fontaine’s Fables, and The Dead Souls by Gogol.
