Shepard Fairey is an American contemporary artist, graphic designer, and activist born on February 15, 1970, in Charleston, South Carolina. He gained prominence in 1989 with his “Andre the Giant Has a Posse” sticker campaign, which evolved into the “OBEY Giant” project, challenging viewers to question their surroundings and the influence of corporate advertising. Fairey later became internationally recognized for his 2008 “HOPE” poster of Barack Obama, a powerful image that became a symbol of the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign and was widely reproduced.
