Peter Hutchinson Biography

Peter Hutchinson is associated with the conceptual art, earth art, and story art movements of the late 60’s and early 70’s. He and his contemporaries, such as Robert Smithson and Dennis Oppenheim, forged a rigorous, expansive alternative to the dry, stifling art of high minimalism. In his playful text and photo collages, Hutchinson creates worlds where we can get lost in his imagination. Solo shows include: Man’s Condition A photographic poem in 27 parts from 1976, Galerie Bugdahn und Kaimer, Düsseldorf; Dreamscapes Lance Fung Gallery, New York City; Frederieke Taylor Gallery, New York City; Recent Works, Galerie Bugdahn und Kaimer, Düsseldorf; Year, John Gibson Gallery, New York City. Grants and awards: Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant; Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation grant; National Endowment for the Arts grant.
