By Katherine Bradford
Katherine Bradford (born 1942) is an American artist celebrated for her figurative paintings that blend abstraction, metaphor, and humor. She began her art career later in life, earning an MFA from SUNY Purchase in 1987. Bradford's work often features swimmers, caped figures, and otherworldly scenes, characterized by vibrant color fields and a sense of narrative openness. Her paintings are noted for their tactile surfaces, theatrical lighting, and emotional resonance, with critics highlighting her ability to balance formal exploration with metaphorical depth.
