URBAN LIGHTS 2
Series composed of 2 prints, Technique: Stencil + China ink, Dimensions: 95x63cm, Paper: Hahnemühle 230g., edition:10, Date: 2022
In this series, patterns resemble urban layouts. Geometry is used to build abstract maps, not literal ones. The projection of lights over imaginary cities simulates the night sky, like a reflection. White dots mark the black lattice plane, forming a new layer of ink on the paper. The orthogonal mesh which communicates order and regularity, opposes to the change of points and the three-dimensional illusion of the image. The contrast between the layers – black and white – alters our visual perception, highlighting the lights that orbit over the urban surface, as if they transcend the dimensions of space and time. (One particularity of this series is that it generates unique works. Even if the black lattice is repeated, the arrangement of the white dots changes according to the print, revealing in each one a photograph of the night sky).
